RC Lens threatened with supporters' suspension in the Champions League

RC Lens, known as the Sang et Or, received, on September 26, a UEFA sanction after its supporters used pyrotechnic devices during the away match at the Eden Arena, where the club beat Slavia Prague 3‑2 on September 10 in the Champions League. The fine amounts to €15,000.

€15,000 fine and probatory suspension

UEFA’s Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Committee (CEDB) imposed a €15,000 fine on RC Lens for the pyrotechnic incident that occurred on September 10 at the Eden Arena, as reported by L’Équipe. This financial sanction adds to the disciplinary warning already announced.

In addition to the fine, the CEDB announced a suspended suspension of the club’s visitor allocation for its upcoming European away trips. The measure comes with a two‑year probatory period.

In practice, RC Lens still retains the ability to count on its supporters during overseas trips, but a further offence could lead to the loss of the 1,024 seats that had been allocated to it in the Eden Arena’s visitor area.

Impact on RC Lens’s European campaign

This first sanction comes at the very start of RC Lens’s 2026‑2027 Champions League campaign, after the Sang et Or’s 3‑2 win over Slavia Prague. The club must now avoid any further disciplinary incidents to preserve its fans’ presence at upcoming European matches.

Before the match, RC Lens had reminded its supporters that pyrotechnics were strictly prohibited inside the Eden Arena. Despite this warning, the supporters used pyrotechnic devices, triggering the sanction.

UEFA now lists this prohibition among the probatory sanctions targeting supporter presence, describing the situation as a “Damocles sword” for the club’s upcoming trips. Any repeat offence could lead to a permanent suspension of the visitor allocation.

The Sang et Or will therefore need to show restraint to ensure that their supporters can attend future Champions League matches without additional restrictions.
