RB Leipzig assess Julian Nagelsmann – Demichelis stays in charge despite criticism

At RB Leipzig's training ground there is a tense calm: while Martin Demichelis took over Ole Werner's position in the summer, the rumor is already swirling that Julian Nagelsmann, the former coach of the club, could return. The 39‑year‑old German led the club from 2019 to 2021 in 95 matches to 54 wins, 22 draws and 19 defeats, achieving a points average of 1.94.

Current season and upcoming challenges

RB Leipzig's current Bundesliga record is balanced: three wins, three losses and three draws. In October, seven league matches are scheduled, including away games against FC Bayern and Real Madrid in the Champions League. These fixtures increase the pressure on Demichelis, whose work, according to Managing Director Marcel Schäfer, still depends on the bosses' patience.

Interest in Nagelsmann and internal assessments

According to Sky, Julian Nagelsmann is on the radar of several club officials, but the report says there are currently no concrete talks. The Premier League is also said to be interested in the coach, who left the German national team after the disappointing World Cup round of 16 in July. Internally, Global Sports Director Roger Schmidt, 59, is scrutinising Demichelis' concepts more closely before delivering a final verdict.

Oliver Mintzlaff, chairman of the supervisory board, remains a supporter of Nagelsmann and emphasises that the former Landsberg coach still enjoys a good reputation in the RB‑cosmos. Upon Nagelsmann's departure in 2021 for FC Bayern, media reports said a release fee of 25 million euros was due – a record for coaching fees.

RB Leipzig's community forums are actively debating the possible return of Nagelsmann, while confidence in Demichelis from the bosses has not yet been shaken. The forums also discuss “Transfers”, “Gaming”, “Support”, “Premium”, “Service”, “Video” and the “Latest” news situation, with all posts grouped under the tag “All News”.

Analysis of the club forums shows that members describe the current season as “Wins and losses” and continue to monitor the sporting development closely. Despite the critical voices, Demichelis remains in focus, while the possible return of Nagelsmann further complicates RB Leipzig's strategy.
