Rashford seizes fresh chance as United chase attacking spark

Under the bright lights of the Tarczynski Arena in Polonia, Marcus Rashford stepped onto the pitch for Manchester United against AC Milan, marking his first appearance in the red shirt after almost two years away.

The match picture, captured by Arnau Escayola, was posted with the note "Actualizado el 16/08/2026 11:57 CEST", confirming the exact moment of Rashford’s return.

Rashford's return after loans

At 28 years old, the English forward had spent the previous season on loan at Barça and, before that, at Aston Villa, leaving the Red Devils without his services for many months.

His spell at Barcelona ended when the Catalan club declined a pre‑agreed purchase option of 30 million euros, allowing United to bring him back without a transfer fee.

Carrick’s faith and debut

Michael Carrick, now United’s head coach and former teammate of Rashford, handed the striker his debut on Saturday, the final pre‑season game, inserting him with 30 minutes left.

Wearing the number 9, Rashford entered the fray as United fell 2‑4, but his energy and determination were noted despite the defeat.

Future outlook and contract

Speaking after the match, Carrick said, "Le conozco desde hace mucho tiempo y aporta algo un poco diferente. Estamos deseando que empiece la temporada," underscoring the coach’s belief in Rashford’s unique contribution.

Rashford remains under contract until 30 June 2028, a deal that gives United ample time to assess his impact.

His Barcelona statistics – 14 goals and 14 assists – fuel optimism that he can still deliver a high output for the Red Devils.

United’s attacking roster now includes Matheus Cunha, Benjamin Šeško and Bryan Mbeumo, meaning Rashford must re‑earn his place in a competitive forward line.
