Rangers set to spend €10m on Kim Min-su, a Korean first

South Korean winger Kim Min-su, 20, is travelling to Scotland to complete a medical and sign a contract that would see Rangers activate a €10 million release clause, making him the first player from his country to wear the Glasgow club’s shirt.

Deal structure and historic milestone

The Glasgow giants will trigger the clause with staggered payments, and the agreement was reached quickly after the club’s manager hinted at signing a player with “speed and imbalance”.

At €10 million, the fee would bring Girona a substantial cash injection and give Rangers a historic addition – Kim would become the first South Korean in the club’s 154‑year history.

Kim’s flight to Escocia is intended to finalise the medical examination and contract paperwork, cementing the transfer that has been closely watched by both sides.

The winger arrived at Montilivi in 2022 from the CF Damm academy, progressed through Girona’s youth ranks and made his first‑team debut in the 2024/25 season, featuring in three league games, two cup ties and one Champions appearance.

After a loan spell at Andorra, where he logged 40 matches, scored six goals and provided four assists, Kim’s vertical, aggressive style on the left wing attracted interest from Ajax and Lyon.

While the sale proceeds, Girona introduced Portuguese defender Mauro Furtado, an 18‑year‑old Benfica graduate. The albirrojos paid €1 million for 50 % of his rights and secured an option to acquire a further 30 % for €600 000.

Furtado joins a defence already bolstered by free‑agent Ghanaian Abdul Mumin, who arrived from Rayo Vallecano, giving Quique Álvarez more depth ahead of the new campaign.
