Ramos shuns superstition as Milan's record signing
Portuguese striker Gonçalo Ramos arrived at AC Milan from Paris Saint-Germain for €74 million this summer, swapping his luxury‑joker role at the Rouge et Bleu for a chance to become a regular starter at the San Siro. He now faces the pressure of being the club’s costliest acquisition while hoping to cement his place in the starting eleven.
At Paris Saint-Germain, Ramos was often deployed as a luxury joker, a role that highlighted his knack for late‑game impact. The move to Milan marks a clear shift from that specialist function to a full‑time starting position.
Ramos told the club’s official channel that when he learned of the opportunity to join the San Siro, he did not hesitate.
"Quand j’ai appris qu’il y avait une possibilité de venir ici, je n’ai pas hésité une seconde : c’était le bon choix. Pour moi, cela a été clair dès le premier instant : je voulais être ici et faire partie de ce projet," he said.
Wearing the iconic number nine
He also inherited the number 9 shirt, left vacant after Niclas Füllkrug’s departure, a symbolically heavy garment for the forward.
"Je ne crois qu’au travail," he reiterated, adding, "Je ne crois pas à ces choses‑là, je ne crois qu’au travail. Peut‑être que je suis plus ‘maudit’ que le numéro, on verra bien."
Le natif d’Olhão, formerly of Benfica, now aims to justify his €74 million price tag by delivering consistent performances.
His emphasis on effort over superstition signals a pragmatic approach as he strives to become the most valuable signing in the Lombard club’s history.
