Ramona Bachmann’s goal not enough as YB Frauen miss Europe
In the third-place decider of the Champions League qualifying second round, YB Frauen fell to SeaSters Odessa 1-3 in St. Pölten, Austria.
The Dutch-speaking Swiss club had arrived as overwhelming favourites in the mini-tournament’s decisive match against the Ukrainians. Yet within twelve minutes of the restart, YB Frauen conceded three goals and the game slipped away.
Head coach Imke Wübbenhorst reacted by sending on 35-year-old Ramona Bachmann, the 153-time national player. Ten minutes after her introduction, Bachmann pulled one back. It was her first goal since October 2024.
The Bern-based side could not find another equaliser and will not play in Europe this season. Their delayed league opener in Basel is now next Friday.
Before the setback in Austria, YB Frauen had beaten Aktobe 4-0.
