Rabiot’s debut spark fuels Milan’s opening win under Amorim

Adrien Rabiot’s debut for AC Milan sparked a comeback as the French midfielder assisted and then scored, securing a hard‑fought 2‑1 victory over Torino in Serie A’s opening round under newly appointed coach Ruben Amorim in his first match at the Stadio Olimpico Grande Torino.

AC Milan arrived in Turin under the guidance of Kian Fitz‑Jim, who had earned a starting spot after moving from Ajax. The first half saw the visitors dominate possession but generate almost no clear chances.

Rabiot sparks comeback

French midfielder Adrien Rabiot entered the fray in the 56th minute, replacing Ardon Jashari. Eight minutes later he supplied the decisive pass to Alphadjo Cissé, who scored after receiving the ball from Catanzaro. Two minutes after that, Rabiot himself netted, finishing a low‑cross from Samuel Chukwueze.

Torino pulled one back deep in extra time through a fine strike by Ché Adams, but the 2‑1 scoreline held, delivering Milan their opening Serie A victory.

Amorim’s rebuilding plan

Ruben Amorim, the Portugese ex‑manager of Manchester United, was appointed on 16 June, succeeding Massimiliano Allegri. He arrived with a promise of a major squad overhaul, bringing in Gonçalo Ramos from Paris Saint‑Germain, Mario Gila from Lazio and Diego Moreira from Strasbourg. In total Milan spent €150 million on new arrivals, a figure that could rise to €175 million with bonuses, marking a significant investment in Milaan’s roster.

Atalanta Bergamo also secured a win, guided by new coach Maurizio Sarri. Despite an own goal from Cas Odenthal, Giacomo Raspadori opened the scoring after six minutes, while Marten de Roon watched from the bench.

Later, Sassuolo equalised through Cas Odenthal, the 25‑year‑old Dutch defender who left NEC in the summer of 2022. Ten minutes on, Nikola Krstovic restored the lead after a costly error by Tommaso Macchioni.
