PSV eyes 17‑year‑old Belgian midfielder in last‑minute deal
Update: PSV Eindhoven will sign 17‑year‑old defensive midfielder Wout Willemsen from Belgium, a move confirmed by Rik Elfrink of the Eindhovens Dagblad. The Belgian (Belg) talent is set to join the club in Eindhoven, North Brabant, with a multi‑year contract expected to be signed this week.
Signing details and contract
Elfrink reported that PSV will acquire the 17‑year‑old from KRC Genk. He posted on X that “PSV brings defensive midfielder Wout Willemsen to Eindhoven.”
The player is expected to travel to Eindhoven on Wednesday to finalise his agreement. The deal is described as a multi‑year commitment with the club.
Willemsen spent last season mainly with Genk’s Under‑19 side. At the start of the new campaign he was named on the bench for Jong Genk but did not make an appearance.
It remains unclear whether he will be integrated into the first‑team squad of the reigning Eredivisie champions. He is the third midfielder recruited by sporting director Earnest Stewart this summer, following Sven Mijnans from AZ and Kodai Sano from NEC.
ED noted on Tuesday that PSV’s current financial situation still allows for a “reasonable purchase” before the transfer window closes on 2 September. The club therefore retains flexibility to add further signings.
