PSG’s €50 million gamble looms as Godts struggles to match Kvaratskhelia
Paris Saint-Germain have signed Belgian winger Mika Godts last summer, yet the 21‑year‑old still has not convinced the club or displaced Khvicha Kvaratskhelia on the left flank, prompting speculation that a €50 million move for Charles De Ketelaere could be on the cards.
Godts’ limited playing time has left him too quiet to challenge Kvaratskhelia’s place in the offensive hierarchy, and his performances have not matched the expectations set when he arrived in the French capital.
Summer overhaul of the attack
During the same window PSG saw Gonçalo Ramos depart for AC Milan for €74 million, a fee that funded the arrival of Ferran Torres. Torres repaid the investment quickly, netting four goals in his first five Ligue 1 appearances.
The club also added Godts to provide an extra option on the left, but the youngster has struggled to make a decisive impact so far.
Potential return to Charles De Ketelaere
“Une situation qui pourrait inciter le club parisien à revenir sur la piste Charles De Ketelaere, avec lequel des discussions ont déjà eu lieu,” a French source noted, highlighting PSG’s continued interest in the 25‑year‑old Atalanta forward.
De Ketelaere confirmed direct talks with PSG, estimating the transfer sum at around €50 million. “Il y a eu des équipes intéressées, mais quand tu vois les sommes de transfert sur le marché actuel, ce n’est pas toujours simple de partir. Je sais que l’Atalanta demandait beaucoup. Oui, je pense que ça tournait autour de cette somme de 50 millions d’euros,” he told La Dernière Heure.
He added that PSG ultimately chose Ferran Torres, and expressed contentment at Atalanta: “J’ai parlé avec le PSG, mais ils ont finalement choisi Ferran Torres. Je suis content à l’Atalanta… J’ai cette ambition, mais j’ai 25 ans et j’ai encore le temps.”
PSG’s hierarchy may need to act if Godts cannot raise his level in the coming months, as the gap between him and Kvaratskhelia appears increasingly unbalanced. The club’s willingness to invest heavily suggests that De Ketelaere remains a serious target for the next transfer period.
