PSG midfielder targets the 2026 Ballon d’Or despite Dembélé's eclipse

Fabian Ruiz is the only one of the thirty nominees for the 2026 Ballon d’Or to have lifted the Champions League and the World Cup in the same year. Despite these titles, he is not considered one of the top favorites. The PSG midfielder nevertheless persists in his quest.

PSG support turns to others

After initially backing Ruiz, Paris Saint‑Germain ultimately placed its bets on Ousmane Dembélé and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia. The club believes these two forwards provide greater chances of winning the individual trophy.

Yet, observers do not see Fabian Ruiz as a major Ballon d’Or favorite. His impressive record is not enough to place him at the top of the predictions.

Ruiz remains confident and speaks out

This Thursday, Fabian Ruiz told the AS that he fully trusts his chances. In an interview given to a Spanish media outlet, he said he wants to succeed Ousmane Dembélé, the 2025 winner.

“Well, why not? The truth is that, collectively, I have been the most decorated player. I think I have won seven of them in recent years. I am very happy with this season and what I have accomplished.”

He added: “I have felt important at PSG and in the national team. It is essential for a player, and especially for me. The Ballon d’Or is a great title that all players want to win.”

“Being talked about is a satisfaction of being recognized for the work I do. I always want to go higher, so why not dream of the Ballon d’Or?” he continued, smiling.

Fabian Ruiz is eagerly awaiting October 26, the date on which he hopes to see his name confirmed among the best in world football.
