Premier League hopes linger for Yves Bissouma as he seeks new club
Former Tottenham midfielder Yves Bissouma is set to sign a one‑year contract, with an option to extend for a second year, with Dutch giants Ajax, becoming a free transfer in the three months after his June departure from the Spurs.
Bissouma left Tottenham in June after four years at the club, turning free agent and beginning his search for a new team. His contract expired at the end of last season, making him available on a free transfer.
He featured in just 11 games for Spurs during the campaign that ended his spell. A knee injury and off‑field issues limited his impact.
Getty reported in July that Fulham, under new boss Alvaro Arbeloa, were monitoring the Mali international. Bissouma had expressed a desire to remain in the Premier League despite receiving offers from abroad.
He also entertained several overseas proposals, but the Premier League remained his priority. Nevertheless, no Premier League deal materialised before his free‑agent status.

Ajax agreement and terms
According to, Bissouma reached an agreement with Ajax on Tuesday afternoon and travelled to Amsterdam for his medical. The 30‑year‑old is expected to sign a one‑year contract that includes an option to extend for a further year.
Ajax sit fifth in the Eredivisie after three wins, one loss and one draw from their opening five matches. The Dutch side are now led by Spanish manager Michel, who is looking to improve on a disappointing previous season.
Finishing fifth secured Ajax a place in the Conference League, meaning Bissouma will return to European competition after three months without a club. He will therefore add continental experience to his resume.
Spurs exit explained
Tottenham did not offer Bissouma a new deal, a decision that reflected his mere 11 appearances in all competitions last season. A lingering knee problem and several off‑pitch incidents contributed to the club’s choice.
He was omitted from the UEFA Super Cup squad by then‑manager Thomas Frank after being labelled ‘ill‑disciplined’ for repeated late arrivals. A video of him inhaling nitrous oxide led to a club ban, and he later blamed the incident on paranoia after a home burglary. Bissouma left Tottenham having made 111 appearances across his four‑year tenure.
