Premier League: Deschamps' future shaped by Real Madrid and Manchester United

In the corridors of Old Trafford, rumours are swirling as Manchester United fight to climb out of 13th place in the Premier League, with only one win in six matches. At the same time, the 57‑year‑old coach, Didier Deschamps, says he does not want to end his managerial career.
A departure from the French national team
After fourteen years at the helm of the Bleus, “DD” handed over his position to Zinedine Zidane right after the 2026 World Cup. Despite this change, the French coach said he wants to get back to work, whether at a club or a national team.
Options that are moving further away
Deschamps turned down approaches from Saudi clubs over the summer and his name even floated on the Real Madrid side before José Mourinho was appointed. More recently, English media have presented him as an interesting alternative to take over Manchester United.
The Red Devils are going through a difficult spell: 13th place in the Premier League, only one small victory in six matches, and a 2‑0 defeat to Atlético Madrid on the second day of the Champions League, which further weakens Michael Carrick.
According to reports, United have started talks with Antonio Conte, who is currently unattached. The Italian daily Il Mattino says the Italian coach is “one step” away from the Red Devils’ bench and that Carrick could be dismissed in the coming hours.
These developments push back the prospect of Deschamps returning to Manchester United, leaving the French coach’s future uncertain amid other big ambitions.
