Positive update on Eder Militao gives Real Madrid hope in crisis
Real Madrid have received a positive update on centre‑back Eder Militao after a recent visit from his surgeon, Dr. Lassen Lampainen. The Brazilian is training on grass and is expected to be available again in October, offering a glimmer of hope as the club sit six points behind Barcelona in La Liga.
League position and recent defeats
The 2026‑27 campaign has barely begun, yet Real Madrid find themselves in a crisis after back‑to‑back losses to Real Betis and Atletico Madrid. Those defeats have left them six points adrift of FC Barcelona in the La Liga table.
Physical problems have resurfaced, with Ibrahima Konate and Kylian Mbappe both picking up injuries while on international duty. Federico Valverde also suffered a knock during the encounter with Atletico Madrid.
Three players who were already sidelined last season remain unavailable, one of them being Eder Militao, who is now edging closer to competitive fitness. According to Diario AS, he has been training on grass for several weeks and was recently examined by Dr. Lampainen, who operated on him in April.
Militao's recovery timeline
At the time of his April operation, the defender was expected to miss around five months, placing him in the final stages of his rehabilitation now. The next step is to join full training with the squad, after which his performance will be assessed before a full‑fitness return, targeted for October.
Over the past three seasons Militao has missed nearly 800 days, his misfortune beginning in 2023‑24 when an ACL rupture kept him out for 231 days. Subsequent seasons added three serious injuries and another four in 2025‑26, bringing his total time out for Real Madrid and Brazil since 2023 to 781 days.
If his recovery proceeds as planned, Militao could bolster a defence that has struggled amid the league slump. Real Madrid will monitor his training progress closely before confirming his full return.
