Porto’s €15m loan bid for Santiago Giménez sparks fan divide
Mexican striker Santiago Giménez has agreed to join FC Porto on a free loan from AC Milan, with a €15 million option to buy that becomes mandatory after a set number of appearances or goals, although Milan have rejected the proposal.
He arrived at Milan almost two years ago from Feyenoord. In the San Siro he only impressed against his former club in the Champions League with a rapid goal, and he failed to score in Serie A last season.
Porto's pursuit amid mixed fan feelings
FC Porto, led by Francesco Farioli who previously coached Ajax, have offered a free loan with a €15 million buy‑option that becomes mandatory after a set number of matches or goals. Giménez gave his answer to Porto days ago, and his only season in Amsterdam saw him face his former club in De Klassiker.
The Mexicaan forward cost Milan €30 million in the winter of 2025, while Transfermarkt now values the Mexicaanse striker at roughly €18 million. The Portuguese bid includes the €15 million clause, which differs from Milan’s expectations.
Milan rejected Porto’s proposal, stating they require different conditions for any loan or purchase. The Rossoneri have not accepted the mandatory option tied to appearances or goals.
Ajax‑ and Feyenoord‑fans have mixed feelings about the possible move, with Feyenoord supporters viewing it as a sensitive transfer. The striker’s earlier switch from Feyenoord to the Rossoneri still resonates among the Dutch fan bases.
With the bid turned down, Giménez’ future remains uncertain, and he stays at Milan for the summer, leaving the Rossoneri to decide his fate amid a goal‑dry season. Voor the upcoming season, his €18 million market value suggests the club may seek another suitor willing to meet their terms.
Should the appearance‑based clause be triggered, Porto could secure the Mexican striker permanently for €15 million. The addition would give Santi Giménez a familiar forward as Farioli builds his squad in Portugal.
