Porto, dominant in Portugal but Champions fragility, faces Napoli

Tonight at 9pm Napoli under Massimiliano Allegri are set to face Porto in a clash that pits the Neapolitan side against a two‑faced opponent: the dominant side of the Portuguese league and the fragile side of the Champions League.

Porto's domestic dominance

Francesco Farioli's Dragões are at full points in Liga Portugal, but in the League Phase of the European tournament they have yet to collect a point.

At home Porto knows no obstacles: ten matches, ten victories.

After the 4‑0 win over Estoril on Saturday 31 October, the team sits on 30 points, with 25 goals scored and only 4 conceded.

Among the successes the 3‑1 win over Benfica in the seventh round stands out, complemented by away victories against Casa Pia (4‑1) and Académico de Viseu (3‑0).

The picture changes completely in Europe, as Porto have lost the first three games – 0‑2 to Manchester City, 3‑2 to Real Betis and 0‑1 to PSV Eindhoven – with two goals scored, six conceded and 34th place out of 36 teams.

Napoli also comes from a two‑speed performance: in the Champions they are 23rd with 3 points from three games, the result of one win and two defeats, with five goals scored and seven conceded; the 4‑3 win over Bodo/Glimt came after defeats to Arsenal (0‑1) and Villarreal (3‑1).

In Serie A the situation is certainly no better: the blues are 8th with 14 points after ten matchdays – four wins, two draws and four losses – with 17 goals scored and 13 conceded, 14 points behind league‑leading Lazio.
