Police Release confirms Hull City player’s car flip on October 1

Police have released a statement confirming that a Hull City player was involved in a car crash outside the club’s Cottingham training ground on Thursday, October 1, at about 8.30am. The vehicle, owned by new summer signing Lucas Gourna‑Douath, a 23‑year‑old, flipped onto its side on Millhouse Woods Lane. The player walked away unscathed.

Police statement and road safety concerns

Humberside Police told Hull Live that officers and emergency services responded to a single‑vehicle collision on Millhouse Woods Lane in Cottingham at around 8.30am on Thursday. The police statement stressed that, thankfully, no one was injured. The narrow stretch of road has long attracted speed warnings, and authorities have repeatedly urged caution.

Councillor Phil Redshaw issued a statement last month, saying he had written to the Hull City club secretary on a Sunday to ask that players be reminded to drive carefully down the road because of residents’ concerns. He added that the club should remind staff to take extra care, noting the influx of new players each season.

This incident follows a similar crash three weeks earlier when Sorba Thomas’ car flipped onto its roof on September 11, also on Millhouse Woods Lane. Both accidents involved Tigers players and highlighted the road’s hazards.

Hull City’s early season and next challenge

Hull have begun their first Premier League season back since 2017 strongly, recording two wins and two draws from their opening five matches. The club’s resurgence has been noted as a positive start to the campaign.

After the international break, Hull travel to the MKM Stadium to face Everton, who enjoy a comparable start to the season. The fixture promises a test of both sides’ early‑season form.
