Pisa revives attack with Petagna signing as Ferragosto delays end
Striker Andrea Petagna has agreed to join Pisa on a two‑year deal – with a third year triggered by promotion – reuniting with former teammate Paolo Bianco as the club revives transfer activity delayed by Coppa Italia fixtures that clashed with the Ferragosto weekend.
Transfer delays cleared by Ferragosto
The Coppa Italia commitments that overlapped the Ferragosto weekend diluted the timing of negotiations already on the table. But from today the club is moving forward strongly.
Filling a few squad slots before the league debut can be useful, even with a long transfer window still ahead. The cup also provided valuable clues, as players with reduced minutes were largely spared.
Andrea Petagna featured only in the final minutes of the Monza‑Avellino match and was publicly praised by coach Ivan Juric. “È un ragazzo splendido - le parole del tecnico croato - e farà comunque una grande stagione, sia in caso di conferma sia se dovesse andare via.”
Pisa offered the striker, whose contract runs until 2027, a two‑year deal Di Pisa with an optional third year if the team achieves promotion to Serie A. The length aligns with the club’s medium‑term planning.
Paolo Bianco, now at Pisa, expressed enthusiasm about reuniting with a player who revived his form in the second half of last season.
Optimism grew after Pisa reached an agreement for a swap involving Idrissa Touré, the German who gave his consent to the move to Monza. UE regulations permit such exchanges, and Il club sees this as a step forward.
Pisa’s broader recruitment plan
The club also aims to add a goalkeeper from Juve Stabia (Confente) and a midfielder (Correia), while searching for another first‑choice attacker. Con the new signing, Pisa strengthens its attack, and Su the roster the forward will add depth.
Filippo Pittarello, 29, remains a target despite not being called up by Gorgone for the Catanzaro‑Südtirol game. A gap between Pisa’s offer and the request of the club president Noto is acknowledged, but optimism persists.
Director Polito keeps an eye on several options, notably Emanuele Pecorino, who returned to Juventus after a loan at Südtirol, and the Moroccan striker Cheddira, whose move could materialise if other deals stall.
