Piovanelli says Fiorentina missed Sarri, prefers Vanoli over Grosso

Former Pisa striker Lamberto Piovanelli, Piovanelli Fiorentina fan, told Radio FirenzeViola’s “Viola Amore Mio” programme that the upcoming Coppa Italia tie is a “delicate” affair, adding that Sarri Grosso choices have left fans bewildered and that Vanoli is the clear answer.

Piovanelli, who played for Pisa before becoming a staunch Fiorentina supporter, joined the “Viola Amore Mio” show on Radio FirenzeViola to preview tomorrow’s Coppa Italia clash. He opened by noting “Il Pisa non ha fatto una delle sue migliori partite.” The programme, broadcast from Firenze, aims to build anticipation for the fixture.

Piovanelli on Pisa’s recent slump

He argued that after two consecutive victories expectations were high, yet Pisa regressed to the fear displayed on the opening day of the season. The former striker described the upcoming encounter with Fiorentina as “quasi della vita”, a nervous showdown for the passionate Pisa fans.

Regarding Fiorentina, Piovanelli said the side has not enjoyed a calm period despite a recent win, and that the victory in Venezia was a rare positive note. He praised Vanoli’s work, stating that the coach “sta facendo un buon lavoro” after the Venezia success.

Coaching choices: Sarri, Grosso and Vanoli

Piovanelli expressed puzzlement over the club’s recent dismissal of a coach who wanted to come to Florence at any cost, referring to Sarri. He added that the search turned to Grosso, who “ha vinto un campionato di Serie B con un Sassuolo” but, in Piovanelli’s view, “non ha fatto come il Como”. He concluded “Centomila volte meglio Vanoli” who had already shown promise on the Fiorentina bench.

The former Pisa player also lauded president Commisso, saying “Io farei una statua al presidente Commisso” for the money invested in the stadium, the training centre and the transfer market. He believes a move towards a coach like Sarri could have propelled the club forward as many expected.

Overall, Piovanelli warned that the Coppa Italia tie will be delicate, with both sets of supporters eager for a result. He urged patience, noting that the club’s recent decisions will be judged by the performance on the pitch.
