Pina youth barred from home ground after referee assault
CD Pina’s under‑19 side will be unable to host matches at La Contienda for the remainder of the season after the Aragón Competition Committee imposed the harshest sanction ever recorded in regional football. The decision follows a violent incident in late September when referee Yago García, 19, and his father were assaulted at the club’s ground in Zaragoza.
Sanctions handed to players and coach
The committee of the Federación Aragonesa de Fútbol ruled that player number 17 receives a six‑month suspension for chasing the referee, shouting at him and attempting to trip him with a kick. The same ruling gave the club’s number 1 a 20‑match ban for a series of offences, including a kick unrelated to play, further assaults after being sent off and several punches to an opponent who was getting up.
Coach GORKA MARCOS was also punished, receiving a four‑month suspension for failing to have a delegate present and for not protecting the official as he walked towards the dressing rooms in what the committee described as a situation of “grave risk”.
Impact on the club and the match
The competition’s verdict means the Pina youth team must play all remaining home fixtures at an alternative venue, while senior squads may continue to use La Contienda. The incident occurred on Saturday 26 September during the third round of Primera Juvenil, in the match against La Unión that ended 3‑4 in favour of the visitors.
According to the Comité Aragonés de Árbitros de Fútbol, several parents and local supporters approached García as he headed for the locker rooms, striking him and also assaulting his father who tried to intervene. García required ambulance transport to hospital.
The committee highlighted the seriousness of the actions, noting that the referee was left “on the ground, at serious risk”. The sanctions aim to send a clear message about protecting officials in youth football across the region.
All other teams belonging to CD Pina will retain the right to host matches at La Contienda, but the junior side’s home advantage has been effectively removed for the rest of the campaign.
