Perez slams Míchel over Ajax's costly Gloukh and Leonardo signings
On a bright Saturday morning, footage from the television programme "Dit was het Weekend" showed 22‑year‑old Oscar Gloukh receiving several clear chances before being substituted after an hour for Abdellah Ouazane, who left the bench visibly irritated.
Perez questions Ajax's summer spending
Former striker Kenneth Perez, now a commentator, expressed bewilderment at Ajax's transfer policy, recalling that the club spent heavily over the past two summers on Oscar Gloukh and Marcos Leonardo. He described the acquisitions as unwise, noting that Gloukh cost a fixed €14.75 million in the summer of 2025, potentially rising to €17.25 million with bonuses, while Leonardo arrived for just under €20 million from Al Hilal.
Spanish head coach Míchel reacted angrily when Perez criticised the signings, shouting, "Oscar, two goals! You could have scored two goals!" The coach’s outburst followed the substitution that left Ouazane displeased.
Perez continued, calling Gloukh’s shots "childish" and questioning the logic behind paying eleven or twelve million euros – or even more – for a player he deems unsuitable for the modern physical and fast‑paced game.
He added that, compared with a loan signing like Tolu, Ajax should target players with higher Premier League appeal, suggesting the current strategy limits future opportunities.
Overall, Perez’s critique highlights a growing tension between Ajax’s ambitious spending and the perceived lack of return on investment, a debate that may shape the club’s approach in upcoming transfer windows.
