Pascal Groß ends Germany career as new generation rises

WM DFB-Star Pascal Groß has confirmed that his international career with Deutschland is over, Nach Antonio Rüdiger, who quit three weeks earlier. “Officially I am not retired – I have no Social Media – but I am already retired,” he said on Saturday after Brighton & Hove Albion’s 3‑0 win over Meister Arsenal in the Premier League.

Club form and Brighton return

The 35‑year‑old midfielder returned to Brighton & Hove Albion after a spell at BVB, where he had impressed in excellent Form. Brighton currently sit third in the Premier League, and after five matchdays Groß has contributed three goals and four assists, putting him among the league’s top scorers.

Groß made his Deutschland debut at 32, earning 19 caps and scoring once. He featured in Julian Nagelsmann’s squads at Euro 2024 in Germany and at the World Cup 2026 in the United States, Canada and Mexico, playing one match in each tournament.

He said it is Zeit to wish the new Generation the Beste and that he still enjoys football at club level, but Germany is undergoing a change and he will keep his thumbs up.

New national team boss Jürgen Klopp did not include Groß in his XXL squad for the upcoming four internationals, yet the midfielder expects ‘extremely much’ from the coach.

Under Brighton manager Fabian Hürzeler, Groß remains a central anchor in midfield, having already logged 290 compulsory appearances for the Seagulls.
