Pascal Groß ends DFB career and wishes the new generation luck

The 35-year-old midfielder Pascal Groß has announced that he will no longer wear the DFB jersey in the future, after Brighton & Hove Albion won 3-0 against Arsenal. In a Sky interview he explained that he retired after the World Cup and wishes the new generation all the best.

Role in the national team and farewell

In the German national team Pascal Groß was for a long time a quiet representative, whose word carried weight internally with former national team coach Julian Nagelsmann. In a Sky interview he said: “Officially, I have no social media, I am not retired now, but I have already retired.”

He is thus the third professional player after goalkeeper Manuel Neuer (40) and defensive stalwart Antonio Rüdiger (33) who ended their DFB careers after the World Cup debacle. New national team coach Jürgen Klopp did not include him in the 44-player double squad for the upcoming four Nations League matches.

Successes at Brighton & Hove Albion

With his club Brighton & Hove Albion Pascal Groß is currently enjoying great success, as after five matchdays the team is in the top group of the Premier League. After the 3-0 victory over Arsenal he said: “I still enjoy playing football here at the club. But I think there is a shift in Germany, and that is a good thing.”

Against Arsenal the former Bundesliga professional, who previously played for TSG Hoffenheim and Borussia Dortmund, scored a goal. In total he has made 19 appearances for the German A team, with his only international goal coming in the Euro 2024 test match for the 2-1 win against Greece.

He made his DFB debut in September 2023 at the age of 32 in the final match of former national team coach Hansi Flick, a 1-4 loss to Japan. His last international match he played as a substitute in the 1-2 defeat against Ecuador in East Rutherford.

Former national team coach Julian Nagelsmann highlighted especially Groß’s strong team spirit and his analytical view of the game. Groß emphasized that he wishes the new generation only the best and sends them his best wishes.
