Paris Brunner must miss two LFP games after provocative gesture

Paris Brunner, a DFB talent and U21 international, has become a regular starter at AS Monaco, but after his provocative head‑but‑down gesture in the 1‑1 draw against Racing Strasbourg, the native of Dortmund must initially watch from the sidelines, because the LFP has suspended him for the next two games.

Provocative Gesture and Disciplinary Consequence

In the 71st‑minute equaliser, Paris Brunner, who plays for AS Monaco, made a provocative head‑but‑down gesture, indicating a throat‑cut towards the Racing Strasbourg fans. The stadium guests responded with loud whistles, but the match officials did not impose an immediate sanction. The incident was subsequently forwarded by the Ethics Council to the LFP disciplinary committee.

The Ligue Professionnelle announced on Wednesday evening that the German U21 international will be suspended for the next two matches. Additionally, two further games were imposed on him on probation.

Career and Current Form

Coach Filipe Luís described Brunner as a very passionate and intense youngster who immediately recognized his mistake. He emphasized that the club takes the matter very seriously and hopes that such an incident will not happen again.

After the match, Paris Brunner told L’Équipe that his family, his mother and his father had been spoken about and that he had seen the insulting fans. He stressed that the gesture was made in the heat of the moment and that he did not intend to appear disrespectful. Brunner added that he does not regret the action, but sees that it was misunderstood.

The native of Dortmund moved in 2024 from Borussia Dortmund to AS Monaco and was initially loaned for a season to the Belgian top‑flight side Cercle Brügge. In Monaco he was at first used only sparingly, but under the new coach Filipe Luís he established himself as a regular starter. His development led to his first call‑up to the German U21 national team.

After seven league appearances for Monaco, Paris Brunner has already scored six goals. This makes him one of the most promising DFB talents of his generation.
