Palermo end Carlos Quezada's reign amid Serie A turmoil

In the dimly lit Palermo Calcio training ground, a lone camera captured the empty bench, a stark image credited to Getty Images, as staff prepared for a day without head coach Carlos Quezada. The atmosphere hinted at uncertainty ahead of the upcoming Serie A fixtures.

Palermo Calcio announced on the 27th that Carlos Quezada had departed by mutual agreement. The club said discussions concluded that the conditions required to advance the sports project and maintain a professional relationship were not in place.

The club added that training scheduled for the 28th local time will be overseen by its staff. Italian outlet listed Roberto Daversa and Alberto Giraldino as possible successors.

Quezada, 31, previously coached youth sides at Atletico Madrid and Juventus before joining Arsenal as Mikel Arteta’s assistant in August 2020. He took over Palermo last summer and helped the side retain its Serie A status.

This season he oversaw five league matches, recording one win, one draw and three defeats, leaving Palermo in 15th place. His most recent game was a 2‑1 victory over Genoa in the fifth round before his exit was confirmed.

The change marks the third managerial turnover in Serie A this campaign, following similar moves at Fiorentina and Bologna.
