Paderborn's Nyamekye Awortwie-Grant sees his return delayed again
Nyamekye Awortwie-Grant, the 26‑year‑old centre‑back signed by SC Paderborn 07, missed the team presentation at the TNLZ Training Ground in PADERBORN, GERMANY on July 31, 2026, as his return to full training has been postponed once more.
Initial optimism suggested he could rejoin the squad after the international break, but his rehabilitation has taken longer than expected. The delay has forced the club to revise its short‑term plans for the defensive line.
Injury and rehabilitation
The summer signing has been sidelined since mid‑July after sustaining a lateral ligament strain in his right knee. He remains on an individual programme, and trainer Ralf Kettemann said the setback has been difficult for the player and mentally demanding for Njami.
Awortwie-Grant will miss Saturday’s home match against VfB Stuttgart, and the club now expects him to re‑join team training within the next two to three weeks, targeting full integration by the end of October.
Kettemann stressed that the 1.93‑metre defender must receive medical clearance before returning, with the club’s medical staff holding the final decision on his readiness.
The centre‑back’s absence has been a setback for Paderborn, who hope his full recovery will soon bolster their defensive options.
