Oviedo under the microscope after throwing a lighter at the bench

Oviedo won 2-0 in the Asturian derby against Sporting de Gijón at the Nuevo Carlos Tartiere Stadium, but the victory was marred by the launch of a lighter from the stands onto the visiting bench in the 85th minute, an act that triggered the disciplinary protocol.

Lighter incident

It was a lighter that, fortunately, did not hit anyone. The match official, Andrés Fuentes Molina, reported that the object fell onto the visiting bench without causing injuries. The referee stopped the match for one minute before resuming it.

The intense duel, covered by journalist Ramón Fuentes from Madrid, ended with the home side's 2-0 victory. The result reinforced Real Oviedo's supremacy in the Asturian derby.

The RFEF Disciplinary Committee will decide the corresponding sanction on Wednesday. The Disciplinary Code provides for a fine of up to €602, although the medium level, around €301, is usually applied for a first offence.

It is anticipated that the Oviedo club will receive a monetary fine, reinforced by the interruption of the match. The one‑minute pause caused by the launch was considered a minor alteration according to the regulations.

Marc Canosa and Michel Salgado, quoted by the EFE agency, said the sanction will be inevitable after the incident. Both agreed that stadium safety must be strengthened.

Thus, while Real Oviedo's victory celebrates sporting dominance, the lighter episode reminds that fan behaviour can tarnish any win and bring economic consequences.
