The Orange Lionesses began the World Cup play‑offs with a convincing 0‑8 victory over Hungary in Felcsút. Lineth Beerensteyn and Victoria Pelova each scored a hat‑trick, while Jill Roord was seen in a duel with Fanni Nagy. The result marks a big step towards the final.

Victoria Pelova delivered her first goal in the 26th minute with a shot that changed direction. Esmee Brugts extended the lead to 4‑0 just after half‑time (45'+1). Damaris Egurrola headed the fifth goal in the 49th minute, after which Pelova followed with two goals in the 58th and 62nd minutes.
Coach Veurink’s selection and tactics
National coach Arjan Veurink started with 23 players, but missed Viviane Miedema, Romee Leuchter and Daphne van Domselaar. Renee van Asten and Jackie Groenen were rested after earlier injuries. Veurink said: “We hope to get through it better on the pitch” and “More chances should then come out of it”.
He emphasized that the Hungarian side, like Ireland and Poland, played a low block, which presents a challenge. In Felcsút he saw a high tempo and many positional changes, causing the opponent to become confused quickly.
Personal moments and the return
Pelova, who plays for Tottenham Hotspur, celebrated her hat‑trick amid support from teammates after the loss of her mother in May. Lotte Keukelaar came on as a substitute and immediately created a threat, after which Pelova scored her third goal. Beerensteyn completed her own hat‑trick just before the final whistle.
The return in Tilburg, scheduled for Tuesday at 20:45, is seen by Veurink as a formality. With the current form, the Orange Lionesses appear ready for the next stage of the World Cup qualification.
