Only one Brazilian makes the top ten of Europe’s dribble ranking

Only one Brazilian makes the top ten of Europe’s dribble ranking

While the typical Brazilian dribble is hailed as part of the nation’s DNA, the latest Ranking of correct dribbles across the five major leagues shows the skill is not a widespread advantage for Portuguese‑speaking players in Europa. Only 22‑year‑old Sávio, playing for Tottenham Hotspur, appears among the top ten.

Only one Brazilian in the big‑5 list

The Sportsmonk data, which exclude European cup competitions and domestic cups, rank dribblers from the Premier League, LaLiga, Bundesliga, Ligue 1 and Serie A. Sávio recorded 34 attempts with 18 successful dribbles, a 52.9 % conversion rate, placing him eighth overall.

Brazilian dribbling under the spotlight

Historically, the dribble has been a trademark of former Atlético‑MG graduate Sávio, whose flamboyant wing play attracted notice during his spell at Girona. Although his time at Manchester City yielded limited impact, his recent performances for Tottenham suggest a resurgence in the Premier League.

His contribution helped Spurs secure a draw against Manchester United in the latest Premier League round, a result that could prove vital in the club’s battle against relegation.

Elsewhere, the ranking is dominated by Spanish and French talent. Lamine Yamal of FC Barcelona leads with 30 successful dribbles, followed closely by Kylian Mbappé of Real Madrid with 29. The list also features players from Málaga, Strasbourg, Sevilla, Frosinone and Valencia, highlighting LaLiga’s strong representation.

The ages of the top ten underline a youthful surge: Yamal and Yan Diomande are 19, Yassine 20, while Sávio and Miguel Sierra are 22. This suggests a potential shift in the perception that modern football lacks the dribbling flair of earlier eras.

Spain’s clubs dominate the national breakdown, contributing five of the ten players, reinforcing the league’s reputation for technical skill.
