Only Bisseck impresses with a calm debut in Augsburg
At the Augsburg stadium, the German national team faced Greece on Tuesday evening. Head coach Jürgen Klopp fielded five newcomers in the starting eleven, but only Yann Aurel Bisseck impressed with a calm debut. The match ended 0-1 to the visitors after a deflected shot from Dimitrios Kourbelis.
Bisseck's calm debut
The Inter Milan defender displayed strong passing, good positioning and convincing headers in his first required minute. Already in the 17th minute he saw the yellow card, but he was able to avert it confidently. His start in the national team was regarded by many as a successful debut.
Nübel's confident presence
Alexander Nübel, goalkeeper of Besiktas Istanbul, radiated calm and always kept an overview. On crosses and corners he appeared confident, as well as in passing. Dangerous situations were rare, but he was powerless against the deflected shot from Dimitrios Kourbelis that led to the conceding goal.
Defensive weaknesses and the conceding goal
In the DFB eleven's info ticker all matches were analyzed. The only conceding goal occurred when a deflected shot from Dimitrios Kourbelis, after a ball loss by Joshua Kimmich in the 67th minute, hit the net. Josha Vagnoman showed little offensive drive and appeared insecure on the right side. Jonathan Tah kept the defence together and was often involved in the build‑up play.
Jürgen Klopp must react after bitter defeat in Augsburg
In midfield Joshua Kimmich tried to steer the game with precise passes to the forwards, for example to Karim Adeyemi. Despite his strength in duels, he lacked creativity, and missed a free‑kick chance against Konstantinos Tzolakis. Nathaniel Brown delivered dangerous wing runs from the left side, but his crosses usually ended up with the Greek defenders.
Karim Adeyemi kept looking for a finish, but in the 27th minute missed a big chance and four minutes later again in front of Tzolakis. Serge Gnabry, who was substituted in the final phase, added fresh impetus and tested Tzolakis with a powerful shot. Felix Nmecha fought until the 84th minute, but missed the chance to put pressure on Kourbelis, which favoured the conceding goal.
Bambasé Conté, deployed centrally, could hardly make an impact against the compact Greek defence and remained pale, although he had a good finish at the start of the second half. Florian Wirtz, from the 65th minute, showed few convincing moments, while Kevin Schade recorded hardly any actions in the first half, only appearing a bit more agile in the second half.
Jonathan Burkardt, Anton Stach and Hennes Behrens, who only came on from the 65th and 84th minute respectively, could not turn the game around. Their appearances had no notable impact, and the German team finished the match without further chances.
