Omlin's bad luck follows him in Basel too – new injury spell

At St. Jakob-Park, while the crowd waits for Basel's new keeper, Jonas Omlin is already on the bench, plagued by a new muscle injury. The 28-year-old goalkeeper, who arrived from Borussia Mönchengladbach in the summer, must sit out again before he can show his comeback.

The move from Borussia Mönchengladbach to FC Basel was supposed to be a fresh start for the 28-year-old goalkeeper. Instead, his long injury history is catching up with the keeper again. According to recent reports, it remains unclear whether he will soon be used regularly again.

At the start of the season in Switzerland, Omlin was held back by an infection. In his first league match against Lausanne‑Sport, he suffered an injury to his left thigh that kept him out of action for several weeks.

Further muscle injury forces a pause

After a one-month break, Omlin returned in the match against FC Lugano. However, after just 45 minutes he had to leave the field due to an injury to the back of his right thigh. The new muscle injury could again keep him out for several weeks.

The Swiss daily Blick described the situation as already a fiasco. Omlin was also frequently injured at Borussia Mönchengladbach, with a serious shoulder injury in the 2023/2024 season standing out in particular.

Omlin remains under contract with FC Basel until 2029 and hopes to be able to rejoin team training soon. In the current season he has so far only completed three half‑hours in league matches and has not yet been able to make a decisive contribution.
