OM’s Bruno Genesio under fire after four straight Ligue defeats
The Stade Vélodrome still echoed the roar of a 4-0 demolition of Strasbourg, yet the joy was short‑lived as Olympique de Marseille have slipped into a relegation battle after four successive Ligue defeats under the watch of their new boss, Bruno Genesio, who has struggled to find consistency.
After the opening triumph over Strasbourg, OM have recorded four straight defeats in Ligue 1. The run has dropped the club into the relegation zone, a precarious position for the league’s historic side.
The slump has proved difficult for the newly appointed coach, Bruno Genesio. He has repeatedly aired his frustration, particularly over a summer transfer window that concluded without a single new signing.
During the same period, speculation grew about a possible resignation of the former LOSC manager, feeding further uncertainty around the Marseille project.
Lorenzi dismisses resignation rumours
Sporting director Grégory Lorenzi addressed the rumours in a Wednesday interview with L’Equipe. He insisted there is no basis for a resignation claim concerning Genesio.
When asked whether Genesio might step down, Lorenzi replied, “No, not at all. The coach is contracted with us until 2028, we are planning with Bruno and there is no issue.”
Lorenzi added that the statement does not indicate any internal friction. He stressed that the board, the coach and himself are all aligned.
Genesio, for his part, acknowledges his frustration and says it is his role to express what he feels. He warned that voicing concerns in the press does not automatically bring change.
With the director’s reassurance, the outlook is that Bruno Genesio will continue his adventure at Marseille, barring any unforeseen developments.
