OM Clash sees Genesio steady side after Paixao’s early exit
In the OM Clash, Olympique de Marseille manager Jorge Genesio admitted he was not fully satisfied with the performance despite the three‑point win, and he addressed the early exit of forward Paixao.
Genesio’s assessment of the match
“Etes‑vous pleinement satisfait de ce que vous avez vu ce soir ?” Genesio asked, before answering his own question with a blunt “Pleinement satisfait, je vais vous dire que non.” He added that he remains “très attentif” to the content of his matches.
He praised the victory as a needed break in a “spirale négative de cinq défaites de suite”, noting that the win finally halted that run. Yet he cautioned that the display was far from the team’s best, describing the game as “loin d’être notre meilleur match”.
Young players step up
When questioned about the debutants Kelyann Bezahaf and Nouhoum Kamissoko, Genesio replied, “Oui, ils ont tous les deux fait un gros match.” He highlighted their initiative in the first half, calling it “l’insouciance de la jeunesse” and saying they performed “très bien” as starters.
Paixao’s refusal to shake Genesio’s hand sparks severe rebuke at Marseille
Genesio also spoke about Paixao’s substitution, saying, “Concernant Igor, pour moi, ce n’est rien. Ça peut arriver.” He suggested the striker may have been frustrated by being taken off, but affirmed that Paixao “sait qu’il peut compter sur moi” and retains the group’s confidence.
The manager stressed that the win, which gave Marseille three points and moved them up the table, provided a mental lift. He noted, “Je pense que ce genre de victoire peut justement nous redonner de la confiance.” He also praised the supporters for staying behind the team despite a “match qui n’a pas été très agréable à voir”.
Genesio concluded that while the result is positive, the side must continue to improve, especially in taking risks and advancing the ball. He warned that “on attendra un petit peu avant de pouvoir se réjouir à la fois du résultat et de la manière”.
