Oliver Glasner Nears Milan Appointment as Rangnick Remains Unreleased

🇬🇧 7 June 2026

Oliver Glasner has given his approval to move to Milan. Milan are still waiting for the Austria national team to release Ralf Rangnick.

Milan dismissed head coach Massimiliano Allegri, sporting director Igli Tare, technical director Geoffrey Moncada and CEO Giorgio Furlani after the 2025-26 season. The club is now rebuilding its senior management structure.

Candidates for the Milan head‑coach role have included Mauricio Pochettino, Matthias Jaissle and Arne Slot, with Glasner emerging as the leading option. Glasner met Milan representatives, presented his tactical plan to Gerry Cardinale and Zlatan Ibrahimovic, and now awaits the club’s go‑ahead.

Ralf Rangnick remains with the Austria national team, which is preparing for the 2026 World Cup and negotiating a contract extension through Euro 2028. Former Barcelona director Ramon Planes is the alternative candidate if Rangnick stays. A photo by Maja Hitij shows Glasner celebrating the UEFA Conference League trophy after Crystal Palace’s 2026 final win over Rayo Vallecano de Madrid.
