Olise's stunt and Brugge's wonder: two dramas in one evening

While Michael Olise committed a foolish action that earned him two yellow cards within two seconds, Club Brugge staged a spectacular comeback in Milan against Inter, making both incidents define the evening in the Champions League.

Olise’s mistake and the consequences for Viking

In the Champions League match between the Norwegian Viking and Bayern Munich, the Viking seemed on course for a historic victory with a 2‑0 lead in the first half. After the break, Harry Kane levelled the score with two goals, after which the match ended in a 3‑3 draw. In the 71st minute Luis Díaz appeared to give Bayern the win, but two seconds later Olise threw the ball into an opponent’s face, received a second yellow card and was sent off in the 74th minute. A second earlier he had already received a yellow card for holding a shirt. Coach Vincent Kompany called the action “incredibly stupid” and emphasized that Olise showed remorse.

Club Brugge’s unexpected triumph in Milan

Meanwhile Club Brugge delivered a stunning surprise by beating Inter at home 4‑3. The 22‑year‑old Nicolo Tresoldi was the big man with three goals, while Ange‑Yoan Bonny scored the equaliser in the 93rd minute. Herman Johan Haugen headed the 3‑3 for Bayern in the 90th minute, but that had no impact on the Brugge victory. It was the first red card in 279 professional duels for Olise, who is regarded among the world’s best players and is a candidate for the Ballon d’Or on 26 October.

Other matches of the evening included Barcelona’s 1‑4 victory over Galatasaray, in which Lamine Yamal provided two assists, and Atlético Madrid’s 2‑0 win over Manchester United. Arsenal convincingly beat Lille 3‑0, with Jurriën Timber scoring.

The evening showed how a single reckless moment can influence a match, while another club wrote a completely different narrative with a hat‑trick performance. Both stories underline the unpredictability of the Champions League.
