Offiziell Bayer Leverkusen sells Palacios to Premier League side

Offiziell, Bayer Leverkusen have confirmed the departure of 27‑year‑old Argentine midfielder Exequiel Palacios to Premier League newcomers Ipswich Town, with the transfer set to be completed before the Tuesday transfer window closes. The move marks a painful exit for the German club as the summer window draws to an end.

Financial details of the deal

The Athletic reports a fixed fee of €22.5 million, with performance‑related bonuses capable of raising the total to €30 million. Bayer Leverkusen therefore record a profit, having bought Palacios in the winter of 2020 for a total package of €20 million from River Plate. Der announcement first appeared on RedditCopy ArticleFüg as a Quelle for the Transfersommer, signalling the Ende of the current window.

From a financial perspective Bayer 04 can celebrate a net gain on the Palacios transfer. The club’s accounts will reflect the €2.5 million surplus before bonuses are activated.

Sporting impact for Leverkusen

Sporting director Carles Martinez now faces a tough task replacing Palacios, who missed much of the pre‑season after participating in the World Cup summer. The midfielder had been earmarked as a central pivot for the new season, making his Thursday (Donnerstag) announced Abgang a significant blow.

Leverkusen’s sporting director Simon Rolfes said, “With this Transfer Art we fulfil Exequiel Palacios’s great wish to prove himself in the Premier League after his top period in the Bundesliga.” He added that Palacios has consistently demonstrated high footballing quality and earned great respect within the squad and the whole club. Rolfes, speaking to Rene Nijhuis/MB and captured by Media/GettyImagesDer, highlighted the player’s professionalism during the summer (Sommer) and praised his character.

Ipswich Town will welcome Palacios as they prepare for their Premier League campaign, while Bayer Leverkusen must reshuffle their midfield before the Wechselfenster closes on Dienstag. The club’s next steps will be closely watched by supporters as the summer transfer period comes to a close.
