Officially national team coach Jürgen Klopp drops Kimmich discussion

In the conference room of the stadium in Thessaloniki, as the light fell on the microphones, the official national team coach Jürgen Klopp announced that he had ended the discussion about Joshua Kimmich. “I give up. Officially. Already now. Do whatever you want,” he said, smiling.

Klopp had made several attempts to answer the question about Joshua Kimmich as innocently as possible. In the end, however, he kept it simple and decided to end the debate.

Klopp announces official surrender

The statement was made during his press conference before the Nations‑League‑return leg against Greece on Sunday at 20:45 in Thessaloniki. The event was broadcast live on RTL.

After the intermittently thrilling 2-0 victory over Serbia on Thursday, the question arose whether captain Kimmich could lose his starting place. The discussion was widely conducted in the German media.

Florian Wirtz, Tom Bischof and Aleksandar Pavlovic had fully convinced in Munich and delivered convincing performances in midfield.

“Yes, the midfield was top,” said Klopp, “but now imagine we had exactly three midfield players in Germany. How crappy would that be? Exactly three! We obviously need more.”

He emphasized that he was very satisfied with the situation and that no one who can really play properly needs to worry. At the same time, he hopes for a selection of leaders, hard‑working and creative players.

In conclusion he added: “I am pleased that Joshua Kimmich is a German international – and everyone else as well.” With this he underscored the importance of the squad for the future.
