Official Stadio Olimpico ready for the EURO 2032 Final
Official Stadio Olimpico ready for the EURO 2032 Final: today local authorities presented the renovation project, foreseeing an investment of €150 million to transform the arena into a venue capable of hosting the tournament’s summer final and guaranteeing UEFA standards.
Investment and capacity
The budget allocated for the restyling amounts to around €150 million, a figure confirmed by multiple sources. The renovation foresees expanding the capacity to over 70 000 seats, far exceeding current levels. The project was defined by Sport e Salute in agreement with the FIGC and with the governmental commissioner body established for Euro 2032.
Timelines and works
The works must start in the summer of 2027, with the aim of finishing by the end of 2030. The schedule has been designed to avoid interrupting the arena’s use, which continues to host Serie A matches, rugby fixtures and concerts.
Among the planned innovations are improved visibility for spectators, enhanced security systems at the entrances and the installation of large LED screens. Hospitality spaces, premium areas and corporate zones will be created, along with refreshment points and shops. The project also incorporates facilities for generating energy from renewable sources, making the stadium more sustainable and capable of generating value 365 days a year.
ITALY, together with Turkiye, is co‑host of EURO 2032 and must provide five venues for the tournament. Rome is the only Italian city with two candidate facilities: the Stadio Olimpico and the new Roma Stadium under construction, as indicated in the list submitted to UEFA. UEFA has included the Stadio Olimpico in the list of venues eligible for the final stage. The new Olimpico must meet the UEFA standards required for the EURO 2032 Final.
While Roma is working on the construction of the new facility in the Pietralata district, the Stadio Olimpico remains the capital’s sporting symbol. In addition to hosting the matches of AS Roma and SS Lazio, Italy also uses the Stadio Olimpico for the national rugby team’s games. The new Roma Stadium, once completed, will provide a modern home for the team, but the future of the old venue remains tied to the renovation project.
