Official: Jamie Vardy's next club – Burnley
After his contract ended in Italy, Jamie Vardy was clubless; now the 39‑year‑old cult striker has officially signed for his next club, FC Burnley, until the end of the season and returns to England to help the Championship promotion back to the Premier League.
Contract and Goals at the Clarets
The Championship club announced the signing on Sunday. Vardy, who is regarded as a cult striker, will play for the Clarets until the end of the season and has said that he wants to contribute to promotion to the Premier League.
“I am very happy to be here at FC Burnley. This club has a long football history and has passionate fans who deserve a team that represents them and their city with dignity,” said the Leicester legend about his move to the Championship.
Previous Clubs
Vardy most recently played in Serie A for Cremonese, where he scored seven goals in 29 appearances but could not prevent relegation. The second‑highest English league brings back positive memories for him, as he had already played in the Championship early in his career and was promoted to the Premier League in 2014.
Just two years later, the Foxes sensationally won the Premier League. This summer, Vardy was also linked with FC São Paulo.
Burnley are not yet on track this season: in the first five games the team has collected only two points.
The Vardy party continues, as the 39‑year‑old cult striker continues his career at FC Burnley and hopes to achieve promotion to the Premier League with the Clarets.
