Nkunku surprised by Amorim's unexpected rejection at Milan
On a sunny Thursday evening in Milan, the 28‑year‑old striker Christopher Nkunku looks back with amazement at his departure from AC Milan, after coach Rúben Amorim left him out of the squad and he returned on loan to RB Leipzig this summer, together.
Productive season figures at Milan
Nkunku said that he had not expected the decision: “I did not expect this,” said the Frenchman. He emphasized that he had a season in which he played regularly and remained injury‑free.
In that season he scored seven goals in 32 Serie‑A appearances, which amounts to 0.46 goals per ninety minutes – the highest productivity within the club.
At the same time he recalls his earlier spell at RB Leipzig, where between 2019 and 2023 he scored seventy times in 172 matches.
This summer he returned to Leipzig and will appear Thursday evening in Italy when his club visits Como in the Champions League.
“I am happy at Leipzig today. I had other options, but returning here was my only priority,” said Nkunku, underscoring his satisfaction with the new step.
