Njie chooses Fiorentina after Palace's last‑minute interference

Swedish Under‑21 winger Alieu Njie has confirmed that his summer move from Torino to ACF Fiorentina was completed on 30 August, after Crystal Palace attempted a last‑minute intervention that he rejected, insisting it was Fiorentina or nothing. The 21‑year‑old, currently on duty with Sweden's Under‑21 side, said the decision was final.

Fiorentina's youth‑focused project

Njie said the appeal of Fiorentina lay in its youthful squad, where most players are around 21 to 23 years old, and the promise of a project built on talent and potential. He highlighted the presence of Paolo Vanoli on the bench, a coach who had already guided his Serie A debut at Torino. "The project was exciting and Vanoli’s involvement counted a lot," he told Expressen.

Torino roots and transfer terms

Having arrived at the Torino youth academy in 2021, Njie progressed to the senior side, scoring his first top‑flight goal under Vanoli’s guidance. The club, known as the Granata, consistently turned down Crystal Palace’s proposals, keeping the player’s options open. The eventual move to Fiorentina was structured as a loan for €4m with an obligation to buy for €12m, plus add‑ons up to €4m and a 10 percent cut of any future sale fee.

While Palace’s offer was reportedly significant, other suitors such as RB Salzburg also expressed interest. Njie explained that despite the allure of the Premier League, his heart was set on the Stadio Artemio Franchi, where he felt the club’s ambition matched his own.

Future outlook and squad integration

Upon arrival in Florence, Njie said the fans made him feel welcome immediately, adding that he already feels at home. He also praised veteran goalkeeper David de Gea, describing him as a “big brother” who looks after the younger players. The winger acknowledged comparisons to Diomandé and Barcola, noting that the compliments boost his confidence while reminding him there is still work to reach their level.

With his medicals completed and the loan deal in place, Njie now focuses on integrating into a Fiorentina side that aims to challenge the Serie A hierarchy. He remains on international duty with Sweden’s Under‑21 team, but looks forward to contributing to the club’s ambitions in Italy.
