Nicolò Schira warns: Montella's job hangs on upcoming matches

While Turkey stood on a 0-3 deficit against Italy on Monday evening, journalist Nicolò Schira reminded us of the earlier defeat against Mark van Bommel’s Belgium, which then won 3-0. Schira says that the upcoming internationals now determine the future of national team coach Vincenzo Montella.

Crucial Nations‑League‑matches

After the break, Turkey seemed briefly better, but the match in Bursa ended 1-4. Directly afterwards rumors started about Montella’s continuation with the Turkish federation.

Schira emphasizes that Montella himself refuses to step down, but that the two upcoming Nations‑League duels – first against France (lost 0-1) and then again against Italy – are crucial.

The last two internationals, against Belgium and once more Italy, constitute according to Schira the final chance for the 52‑year‑old Italian to retain his position. A loss in both matches would, according to the journalist, mean the end of his tenure.

Montella’s earlier club career included positions at AS Roma, AC Milan, Sevilla and Fiorentina, but his current fate now depends on the results at national level.

So far Turkey has not shown a winning response; the coming days will determine whether Montella’s future with the Turkish federation still exists.
