Nicky Hayen already threatens to resign at Burnley after Carl Hoefkens

Nicky Hayen, the Belgian coach, has started the new season with Burnley FC in disastrous fashion; after five games the team has yet to secure a single win and sits with two points out of fifteen at the bottom of the Championship. In the English media there is already open talk of a dismissal.

From KRC Genk to Burnley

Hayen swapped KRC Genk for Burnley FC during the mid‑season break; at his introduction as coach of The Clarets he immediately spoke about the ambition to get back into the Premier League with his new employer.  The club were relegated from the Premier League last season and are now aiming for a swift recovery.

In the first five competitive matches Burnley have not secured any win, suffering defeats to West Bromwich Albion, Norwich City and Bristol City, and gaining only one point against West Ham United and Middlesbrough FC. The Clarets sit with two points out of fifteen at the very bottom of the Championship League.

The English media are already openly reporting a possible dismissal of Hayen, partly due to criticism from the supporters over certain tactical interventions and late substitutions. Fans are wondering whether the Belgian coach could lose his job.

Burnley have meanwhile brought Jamie Vardy, the 39‑year‑old English international, to Turf Moor in the hope of a turnaround. His arrival puts even more spotlight on the club and increases the pressure on Hayen.

Ahead of the upcoming international break Burnley will face Wrexham AFC, Swansea and Derby County, and Hayen says he will need at least seven points out of nine to save his position. A perfect run, however, remains uncertain.
