Nick Woltemade thrills Juventus: Frisian from Bremen in focus

After a year in England, the 24‑year‑old Bremen native Nick Woltemade moves on loan to Juventus Turin. The new striker and playmaker is described by coach Luciano Spalletti as a Friesian – a majestic horse – and is expected to enrich the attacking play with his height and combination strength.

The transfer follows a season at Newcastle United in the Premier League, where Woltemade scored eight goals in 33 games. The English club had signed him in the summer of 2025 for €75 million, but did not use him permanently.

Spalletti's Rural Metaphor

Luciano Spalletti, a 67‑year‑old coach, runs a farm in Tuscany with holiday apartments, a pond and horses. In an interview he explained that a noble breed, a Friesian, immediately comes to mind when he thinks of Woltemade, and compared the striker to a majestic horse. In the spirit of this comparison, Spalletti sees the potential of the player, who operates as a striker‑playmaker.

Debut against AC Milan

On Sunday evening Woltemade came on in the 76th minute against AC Milan. The 1.98‑meter tall giant served as a build‑up point in front of the penalty area, initiated the transition play and shot just over the goal of goalkeeper Mike Maignan in the 84th minute.

The Turin newspaper Tuttosport praised his fifteen minutes, which he spent largely in physical duels to open spaces for teammates. Spalletti also emphasized that he is fully committed to Kolo Muani and will stay with him until the end of the season.

Previous Clubs and National Team

Before the move to Turin, Woltemade played at Newcastle United, where after 33 appearances he scored only eight goals and was increasingly deployed in midfield. Coach Eddie Howe stuck to his 4‑3‑5 system, while successor Matthias Jaissle kept him on the bench.

For the German national team, the 24‑year‑old striker earned twelve caps and scored four goals, including the decisive 1‑0 win against Northern Ireland in October. National coach Julian Nagelsmann promised that Woltemade will never be 80 meters away from the goal in the national squad.
