Neymar's outburst ignites chaos after Santos' Brazilian Cup triumph

Rony's 74th‑minute strike clinched a 1‑0 victory for Santos over Remo, securing a quarter‑final place in the Brazilian Cup, as the match ended on Tuesday night at Mangueirao Stadium. The win sparked celebrations inside the dim tunnel, where a 34‑year‑old Neymar erupted in fury.

Rony’s strike in the 74th minute broke the deadlock and gave Santos the edge needed to advance. The goal came after a tightly contested first half in which both sides created limited chances. With the win, Santos booked a place in the quarter‑finals of the Copa do Brasil.

Inside the dim tunnel of Mangueirao Stadium, the 34‑year‑old forward erupted, his voice echoing as celebrations turned to confrontation. Neymar hurled expletives at Remo officials, repeatedly shouting “eliminated” while brandishing a series of gestures as he was escorted toward the dressing room.

Remo delegates answered in kind, swearing and gesticulating back at Neymar from behind the barriers. A second video released on social media captured the officials returning the taunts, intensifying the heated atmosphere in the tunnel.

Footage shared on Wednesday morning showed Neymar screaming inside the tunnel, and a further clip displayed Santos players and the forward trolling Remo fans and staff after the match. The clips quickly spread across platforms, highlighting the chaotic post‑game scene.

Ahead of the encounter, Neymar admitted he could call time on his playing career in December, when his contract with Santos expires, and said he was uncertain about his future beyond the current deal. In a YouTube video posted on Monday, he reiterated that his contract runs until December and that he will decide his next step then.

Neymar returned to his boyhood club Santos from Saudi side Al‑Hilal in January 2025. Since his comeback he has netted 14 goals in 29 league appearances for the Brazilian outfit.

The 1‑0 win not only secured Santos’ progression to the Copa do Brasil quarter‑finals but also added pressure on the club to manage the volatile atmosphere surrounding its star player. The episode underscores the tension between on‑field success and off‑field discipline as the tournament continues.
