Newcastle's last interest in Feyenoord's Hadj Moussa fades

Newcastle United has expressed interest to Feyenoord for the 24‑year‑old Algerian winger Anis Hadj Moussa in the final days of the transfer window, in the deadline’s closing stage, but the Magpies ultimately decided not to submit a bid, reports the English outlet TEAMTalk.

Previous interest and recent approach

TEAMTalk previously reported that Newcastle United was interested in the Algerian winger. The first report from TEAMTalk about the interest dates back a few months, when the club already published scouting reports. In the final stages of Transfer Deadline Day the English club approached Feyenoord again, but no formal bid materialised.

What the rejection means for Moussa

The Magpies invested heavily this transfer window, with arrivals such as Sean Steur, Matías Fernández‑Pardo and Bazoumana Touré. Hadj Moussa was also high on their wish list, but ultimately no bid emerged. The Algerian, Anis Hadj Moussa, was mentioned several times as a potential signing.

After the Dutch transfer window had closed, Al Ittihad made a mega‑offer for the 24‑year‑old. The exact amount was not disclosed, but sources described it as a mega‑sum. A potential sale would have made Moussa the most expensive outgoing transfer in Feyenoord’s history.

Feyenoord, however, chose to keep the Algerian winger and rejected the offer. The Rotterdam side therefore decided to retain Moussa despite the financial temptation.

Last weekend Moussa arrived late to training twice, resulting in him being left out of the squad for the match against NEC. This disciplinary setback came at a time when his future was still uncertain.

On Wednesday 9 September Feyenoord face FC Barcelona, and according to manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst Moussa is expected to be included in the squad again. The return gives him the chance to prove himself after the missed transfer opportunity.
