Newcastle’s Dedic deal revives United’s Hall chase this summer
Manchester United's chase of Newcastle left‑back Lewis Hall received a fresh lift after the Magpies moved closer to signing Benfica full‑back Amar Dedic for a reported €35 million (£30 million). The development on Tyneside could make Hall more attainable this summer.
Why United target Lewis Hall
Hall is United's No.1 target as they hunt a left‑back this season, and the Tyneside breakthrough has caught Michael Carrick’s eye. United manager Michael Carrick wants to add competition for Luke Shaw ahead of the 2026/27 campaign. He also noted that academy graduate Harry Amass has been told he is free to leave.
Newcastle’s market moves and Hall’s future
Newcastle have progressed on a €35 million (£30 million) deal for Bosnia‑and‑Herzegovina international Amar Dedic, the first signing of Matthias Jaissle’s era. The 23‑year‑old can play both flanks and will replace the departing Kieran Trippier, Emil Krafth and Matt Targett.
Lewis Hall, 21, still has three years left on his contract after a £28 million move from Chelsea two years ago, leaving Newcastle in a strong negotiating position. The Magpies value the defender at £60 million and have so far rejected a previous United approach.
Newcastle have already banked over £250 million from the sales of Anthony Gordon, Sandro Tonali and Bruno Guimaraes, putting pressure on the club to build a competitive squad for Eddie Howe’s successor. Despite this, they remain unwilling to discuss an exit for Hall.
The Sun reported that Hall is keen to leave for the Red Devils, and if he agitates for a move, Newcastle could have little choice but to sell.
United have already signed Youri Tielemans from Aston Villa and Andrey Santos from Chelsea, and added Karl Darlow on a free transfer as backup goalkeeper. Yet Carrick still lists a left‑back and another central midfielder as must‑have signings.
If Hall proves unattainable, United will look at Club Brugge’s Joaquin Seys, rated at £30 million, and Jorge Salinas of Racing Santander, priced around £14 million.
