Newcastle’s £30m gamble: signing Benfica’s Amar Dedic

Newcastle United have agreed a deal to sign Benfica left‑back Amar Dedic for around £30 million, with the Bosnia and Herzegovina international set to join the Magpies on a five‑year contract, GIVEMESPORT sources said on 15 August 2026 in the summer transfer window.

The Magpies entered the window with a depleted back line after Anthony Gordon left for Barcelona, Sandro Tonali moved to Tottenham Hotspur and captain Bruno Guimarães transferred to Arsenal for a combined £245 million. Manager Matthias Jaissle therefore turned to Dedic to plug the left‑back vacancy and restore defensive balance.

GIVEMESPORT correspondent Sam Cohen revealed that Newcastle have reached an agreement in principle with Benfica for a fee in the region of £30 million. Senior correspondent Ben Jacobs added that Dedic will sign a five‑year deal, a move driven by Jaissle’s belief in the player’s qualities.

Manchester United are reported to be showing strong interest in the England international, but Newcastle have made it clear they will not sell another key player this window and expect Dedic to stay.

Dedic, a Bosnia and Herzegovina international, previously worked with Jaissle at RB Salzburg and will now compete with Lewis Hall for a starting spot at St James' Park, adding depth and experience to the squad.

After the report, the media outlet highlighted Daniel’s previous work with , Barnet FC and his involvement in MMA media, Add Us noting the deal was logged as a major sign‑on for Newcastle.

For Newcastle, the signing provides a long‑term solution at left back and reinforces Jaissle’s project; for Dedic, it offers Premier League exposure and the chance to develop under a manager who already knows his strengths.
