Newcastle eye Manchester City Nico González as midfield void widens

Newcastle United are hunting a new central midfielder after the departures of Sandro Tonali and Bruno Guimarães left a clear void in their midfield. A Manchester City clearout could see Nico González, who has struggled to make an impact at the Etihad Stadium, become the Magpies’ next target.

The departures of Sandro Tonali and Bruno Guimarães have left Newcastle United with a noticeable shortage in the central midfield department. Replacing that experience is now a priority as the club looks to rebuild its engine room.

City clearout opens midfield slot

Manchester City are reportedly preparing a clearout of fringe players, creating an opening for Nico González. The Spanish midfielder has never fully established himself at the Etihad Stadium, making a move to St James’ Park plausible.

At the same time, attacking options Omar Marmoush and Savinho are set to join Tottenham, underscoring the busy end to the transfer window for City. Their departures further illustrate the scale of the clearout.

United and Arsenal youth market

United are also expected to offload younger talent to Arsenal, with Gibraltar international James Scanlon and Habeeb Ogunneye earmarked for moves to the Premier League champions. Scanlon spent the latter half of last season on loan at Swindon.

Arsenal’s recruitment drive continues as they eye additional prospects, including Ethan Nwaneri, who is attracting interest from Fulham and Everton, while RB Leipzig may enter talks for a loan spell. Gabriel Jesus has been linked with an exit, though the Brazilian prefers to stay at the Emirates Stadium.

For Newcastle, securing Nico González remains speculative until City confirm his availability and terms are agreed. The Magpies will need to navigate any remaining obstacles before finalising what could be a key midfield addition.
