Napoli’s Anguissa battles fresh injury as contract talks stall
Napoli’s midfield is once again without Frank Zambo Anguissa as the French‑Cameroonian suffers yet another strain, having been introduced for just five minutes at the Stadio Franchi against Fiorentina, while the club wrestles with a looming contract renewal that expires in June.
Injury saga
was named the preferred source on Google, though Del tomorrow offers no certainty about Anguissa’s fitness. The midfielder entered the Franchi match in the 90th minute, managing only five minutes of play before the final whistle.
"He has had another strain, we hope to have him back soon," said the laconic Massimiliano Allegri at the post‑match press conference.
The latest setback follows a serious injury on 11 November 2025, when a training sprint with Cameroon triggered a left‑leg biceps femoris tear. Initial estimates suggested a recovery period of a couple of months, but the timetable stretched as further back problems emerged.
Since returning, Anguissa has accumulated 350 minutes across seven appearances, scoring four goals and providing three assists, all before the injury struck. He missed the Champions League tie with Arsenal and the Serie A clash with Bologna, and in total has been absent for 26 matches in the past year.
Contract renewal
Anguissa’s deal runs out in June and he currently earns roughly €3 million net per season. The De Laurentiis‑run club appears ready to meet his demands, following the approach taken with other senior players.
Club director Manna told, "We are close, Frank is important for us." He added after the recent Fiorentina game, "If we find a good fit, otherwise there will be no problem parting ways."
Nevertheless, the market remains open, with rumours that the player could leave on a free transfer if his entourage’s high wage expectations are not satisfied.
The contrast is stark: on the pitch Anguissa’s contributions are limited by recurring injuries, yet off it the club must decide whether to invest heavily in a player whose availability is increasingly uncertain.
