Napoli’s €23m gamble on Badiashile aims to shore up defence

Official Napoli have confirmed the loan signing of centre‑back Benoit Badiashile from Chelsea, with a permanent option that could rise to an eventual €23 million, making him the Partenopei’s latest high‑profile addition as they reshape their defensive options for the upcoming season.

Loan structure and financial terms

Napoli will pay €3 million to secure Badiashile on loan for the season, with a purchase clause of €20 million that could bring the total cost to €23 million. Conflicting reports suggest the buy‑out could be as high as €27 million with add‑ons, according to some Italian outlets.

Player background and Napoli’s transfer agenda

Badiashile arrived at Chelsea in January 2023 for €37 million after leaving Monaco, and he has since featured in 135 competitive matches for the French club. Over the last four seasons he added 42 Premier League appearances to his record.

Napoli’s activity this summer also saw the arrival of Costantino Favasuli from US Catanzaro, while the club exercised buy options for Rasmus Hojlund, Alisson Santos and Vanja Milinkovic‑Savic.

LONDON, ENGLAND – SEPTEMBER 30: Benoit Badiashile of Chelsea featured in the UEFA Champions League 2025/26 League Phase MD2 match between Chelsea FC and SL Benfica at Stamford Bridge on September 30, 2025 in London, England.

COBHAM, ENGLAND – JANUARY 20: Badiashile was observed during a Chelsea FC training session at the Chelsea Training Ground on January 20, 2026.

Club President Aurelio De Laurentiis announced the move on his X account on August 22, 2026 with the post “Benvenuto Benoit”. The loan runs for the season, and the option to buy will be exercised subject to the agreed financial terms.

The deal now moves forward, but the final purchase price may be influenced by the differing reports on the buy‑out figure, leaving Napoli to confirm the exact amount before the option is triggered.
